This lovely version of our Green School slogan was created by Ms. Cosgrave’s class. They put it in the school hall as a backdrop for our Action Day. Check in before 11am to see what has appeared just under it.

Thank you to The Green Schools Committee for all their work on this project. We will upload some memories of our day as we go along, so stay tuned in.
Congratulations
There was great excitement in school today when we heard that all our football teams have reached the Cumann na mBunscol finals in Portaloise next week. Well done to all connected with the teams.
The finals will take place on Wednesday and Thursday but we will have definite times and dates tomorrow. Keep an eye on the blog for details.
Call for photographs
Your children are asking for your help with their homework. We are all putting together a heritage calendar for the coming year and would be grateful for your assistance in taking shots for inclusion on the published calendar and on the school blog.
Please check your child’s bag for details of their curriculum area. This project will run throughout the year but we are looking for photographs this week so that we can organise the published version.

Seasonal Creations
Hallowe’en Walk
Our annual sponsored walk takes place on Friday October 25th (Weather permitting). Cards were distributed to the children today. You are welcome to join us for this event. There will be two walks to cater for the different energy and endurance levels.
Clothes Collection
There will be a recycling clothes collection at the school on Monday, October 17th. Your support would be appreciated.
Referendum
The school is closed today for students as it is in use as a polling station. Remember to vote before 10.
You can help
Each class will celebrate a particular part of our local heritage in our next calendar. We will ask each child to take a photograph related to their particular part of the project and would be grateful if parents could assist their children with this assignment. These photos should be sent to the school by email or on a memory stick (which will be returned on the day). We are aiming to have all photos with our creative artist, Kathleen Crosby, by the second week in October so that she has time to make a collage incorporating the class photo taken today.
Each class will work on a project around their particular area of interest and one project will go live on the blog each month next year featuring all the photos submitted for inclusion.
We have 8 classes so will have 4 extra pages to fill. Why don’t you as parents submit aspects of our local heritage for inclusion? Pictures from the ploughing, the steam rally, community events, community clean up, sport, musical events etc.
The children will be involved in the following
Junior Infants: Oral Heritage – pictures of adults who tell them stories
Senior Infants: Visual Heritage – the view from my garden/house
First Class: The old churchyard
Second/Third Class: Our school
Third/Fourth Class: Ballyadams Parish Church
Fifth Class: Local place names
Sixth Class: Ballyadams Castle
How about suggestions for a great day out in the locality or county? I think it would be ok if you crossed any of the surrounding borders. You may also have access to an important piece of heritage in the locality so please fell free to contact us with any ideas you may have. If you would like to share some local folklore we would be delighted. If you are interested in local history or the local environment please join in.
Looking forward to a fruitful community project. We live in a beautiful county so lets tell the world about it.
Keep checking in for updates.
National Ploughing Championship
We are all looking forward to the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska next week and wish all those working so hard on the final arrangements all the best.
Reminder for all parents: We will close on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 24th, 25th & 26th of September.
To all those planning on making the journey
“Welcome to our beautiful county”
