Confirmation Information
4th March 2014
Some information for Parents and Sponsors of children making their confirmation on Saturday March 8th at 11am in St. Mary’s Church Wolfhill.
- Children should be in their seats no later than 10.45am
- Each child should collect their name card from their teacher on the day in the church and give it to their sponsor.
- Niamh Cooney, Aisling Carroll, Gráinne Crosby and Sadhbh Cullen are the first four children to be confirmed so their sponsors will be allocated specific seats. All other sponsors should watch for when their Godchild steps into the aisle of the church to walk to the altar and leave their seat to join them. Sponsors should stand directly behind their Godchild and follow them to the altar. Sponsors will hold their Godchild’s name card for the Bishop to read their name. The sponsor places their right hand on the right shoulder of their Godchild. When their Godchild has been confirmed he/she returns to their seat and the sponsor returns to his/her own seat.
- Albs/Robes can be collected from the school on Friday. All robes must be returned to the stand at the rear of the church before leaving the church grounds on Saturday. Please ensure that your name has been recorded on the returns sheet.
- No photographs during the anointing ceremony please. There will be an opportunity for a group photograph at the end of the ceremony.
- Rosettes are not to be worn on the Robes.
Choir members do not need to wear their uniform.
We are all looking forward to a wonderful day.

Confirmation
An information note will be forwarded on Tuesday to all parents of children to be confirmed. It will cover arrangements for the day, collection of robes from schools and return, duties of your child’s sponsor on the day etc. We are looking forward to a wonderful occasion. The confirmation will take place at 11am in Wolfhill church.
A copy of the note will be available to view on this blog.
Quiz
Well done to the 6 teams who competed in the St Abban’s Quiz last night. Congratulations to the team from 5th class of Ronan Weston, Ian Shanahan, Ciarain Burke and Eoin Cahill who were first. We wish them and the other five teams who featured among the top 10 the best of luck as teams are graded for selection into the final round. Thank you to all the parents who transported the young quiz experts to and from the venue.
STEM subjects and investigations
Check out the web pages for 2nd/3rd class and 5th class to view some of their investigations.
Emails to Parents
As part of our continuing Green Schools Programme we would like to compile an email group for all families in the school. This would cut down on the number of notes that would have to be printed during the year. To have your email included I would be grateful if you would email Pam at secretary.ballyadams@gmail.com. This is also an efficient way of informing the school of absences that may suddenly arise as messages can be sent from your phone. By combining our textaparent, blog (ballyadamsns.scoilnet.ie) and emails we hope to substantially reduce the amount of photocopying required in the office.
Those without email will continue to receive communications through textaparent or in printed form.
Anti Bullying Policy
The Board of Management invites you to read our draft Anti Bullying Policy. This has been drafted by the Board of Management, staff and officers of the Parents Association. Your input is very welcome. If you have any trouble viewing this document you can receive a copy by email from the school secretary or we will be happy to provide you with a hard copy on request.
The Department of Education and Skills has requested that all primary school boards develop revised policies in line with DES guidelines before the end of this term.
Circulars in relation to this issue and Department guidelines are available to view on the Department website www.education.ie under circulars (2013).
Uniform Survey
Thank you to all those who returned the uniform survey forms. The Board of Management will examine the information forwarded by you and will discuss any issues arising with the Parents Council.
Members of the Board, staff and officers of the Parent’s Council will meet this week to consider the draft anti bullying policy document. The resulting document will then be posted on the web for any further comment from the parent body. It is planned to present the final document to the Board of Management for ratification on March 12th 2014.
